Access Allround was contacted by a homeowner who required a safe and practical ramp solution to improve access to both the front and rear doors of their property. The client needed a smooth and reliable way to enter and exit the home while ensuring the ramp gradient was comfortable and safe for everyday wheelchair use.
Scope of Work
The project involved the supply and installation of modular ramp systems at both the front and rear doors of the property. A full site assessment was carried out prior to installation to determine the most suitable layout and gradient, ensuring the ramps would be easy and safe for the client to use.
The front garden presented a slight natural slope, which needed to be considered within the ramp design. In addition, the structure of the house wall meant that handrails could not be installed along one side of the platform, requiring an alternative support solution.
Installation
Site Assessment and Planning
A detailed on-site assessment was undertaken to establish the correct ramp gradients and ensure the system would integrate safely with the existing layout of the property.
Front Door Platform Installation
A level platform was installed at the front door to provide a stable space for the client to comfortably stop and operate the door. Due to the house wall preventing rail installation along one side, the platform was securely wall-hung on the right-hand side to maintain stability and safety.
Ramp Construction
A modular ramp system was installed leading from the platform into the front garden. Because of the garden’s slight increase in slope, the ramp was designed with a 1:16 gradient, allowing the client to roll smoothly off the ramp and continue travelling around the property without difficulty.
Rear Door Access
An additional modular ramp was installed to the rear door, ensuring the client had accessible entry and exit points at both the front and back of the property.
Outcome
The installation was completed efficiently in approximately five hours, delivering a safe and practical access solution tailored to the property’s layout.
By carrying out a thorough site assessment and adapting the platform design to work with the building structure, the completed system now provides the client with smooth, reliable access to both entrances of the home. The carefully considered gradient and secure platform design ensure the ramp is comfortable to use while maintaining high safety standards.
